Electricity 2008: Investing in North America’s Electric Future
Strong growth in electric use underscores the need to invest in the future of North America’s electric infrastructure – expanding energy supplies and upgrading the transmission and distribution systems are critical. Edison Electric Institute and Canadian Electricity Association have joined to create the most important gathering of electric company executives this year – the EEI Annual Convention/Expo, June 15-17, in Toronto.
EEI's Annual Convention/ Expo offers numerous program choices and networking opportunities:
-
General Session keynote speakers represent top Fortune 100 companies. Honeywell Chairman & CEO David Cote will provide his outlook on new efficiency and technology opportunities. General Motors Research & Development chief Larry Burns will highlight the latest on the promise of electric vehicles. IBM Senior Vice President and Group Executive William Zeitler will cover new electric efficiency ideas from this $100 billion business leader. In addition, two notable government officials will offer their viewpoints: The Honorable Gerry Phillips, Minister of Energy, Province of Ontario; and Senior U.S. State Regulator Jim Sullivan, President, Alabama Public Service Commission.
-
Gain keen insight at the Critical Issue Forums. Where else can you engage in dialogue with CEOs and senior executives as they tackle some of the industry's most important issues.
-
An Executive Briefing has been added to program on Wednesday morning, June 18, on "Sharing Best Practices and Promoting Technology" to reduce carbon emissions by the Asia-Pacific Partnership for Clean Development and Climate. Register Online for the Executive Briefing.
-
Stay on the cutting edge with the latest technologies, products and services at the sold-out Expo.
-
Attend memorable networking events, where you can share ideas and interact with other executives from the U.S. and Canada. Whether you’re renewing acquaintances during a session break or networking at the Grand Event, you’ll find so many ways to strengthen your ties within the industry.
Register today and reserve your guestroom at the Sheraton Centre Toronto - newly renovated and located in the heart of Toronto - just steps away from shopping, live theatre, museums and world-class dining. The hotel is nearing a sold-out status - don't delay. Spectacular Niagara Falls is less than two hours away - a perfect spot for a post-meeting trip.
Transportation
Taxis and limos do not require pre-booking, and should be available on the Arrivals Level of each terminal at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The taxi fare from the airport to the Sheraton Centre Toronto should be roughly $46.00, while the limo fare should be roughly $50.00. To pre-book a limo, contact Chessington Limousine at (905) 634-8181. The airport is located 17 miles from the Sheraton Centre Toronto and downtown Toronto. Travel time is 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic.
For your return trip, please be sure to allow ample time to clear Customs at the airport.
Reminder: A valid passport is required for travel to Canada... don't forget to take advantage of EEI's discounts with United Airlines and Avis.
Weather/Dress Code
Despite the common conception that Canada has arctic weather conditions, the climate in Toronto is quite mild. Due to its southern location and proximity to Lake Ontario, summer months can be warm and humid. In June, the average high is 75°F. As temperatures can drop several degrees in the evening hours, we suggest layering clothes.
The dress code for all Convention/ Expo activities is business casual. Golf shirts, slacks, and casual dresses are appropriate for the business sessions and social functions. The only exception is the Grand Event, for which we suggest evening resort wear: coat and open-collar shirt with no tie for the men, and slacks, pantsuits, or dresses for women.
