Electric Utility Industry Seeks Dialogue on Cyber Security Legislation

In a letter to Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), the electric utility industry reiterated its commitment to protecting the nation's critical infrastructure from cyber threats and to working with the federal government on innovative solutions.

"In addition to close collaboration as an industry, we also are working directly with government partners to more thoroughly understand the threat environment and, thus, better protect our systems. We agree completely that an innovative and cooperative approach between the private sector and federal government is imperative," the letter stated.

The letter was signed by the heads of the associations representing every segment of the electric utility and nuclear power industries, including the American Public Power Association, the Edison Electric Institute, the Electric Power Supply Association, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, and the Nuclear Energy Institute.
