EEI Testifies Before House Committee on Cybersecurity Information Sharing

BG&E President and CEO Ken DeFontes appeared today before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence to discuss securing the North American electric grid against cyber threats and the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA). Testifying on behalf of EEI, as well as Exelon and the Electric Power Supply Association, DeFontes focused on the value of information sharing, as well as close coordination, among grid operators and government partners, and provided examples of initiatives already underway that are improving this public-private partnership. DeFontes shared with the committee the industry’s observations about the best ways to promote cybersecurity and expressed appreciation for CIPSA’s adherence to principles that the industry believes are integral to successful cybersecurity policy.
