EEI President Tom Kuhn Congratulates Ernest Moniz On His Confirmation As Energy Secretary
WASHINGTON (Thursday, May 16, 2013) - Edison Electric Institute President Tom Kuhn today congratulated Ernest Moniz on his confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), calling him “a visionary leader with excellent credentials for his new job.” His strong advocacy in the areas of technology and innovation is also timely for the electric power industry. Moniz “recognizes how critical it is to use all of our resources to produce electricity affordably, reliably and in an environmentally responsible manner for consumers,” Kuhn said.

Moniz has an impressive background in public service and academia, serving most recently as the Cecil & Ida Green Distinguished Professor in MIT’s Department of Physics. His current research interests lie in energy, science and technology, and national security.

Kuhn commended DOE and the Administration for their ongoing efforts to strengthen the level of coordination between the electric power industry and the government, particularly in response to emergencies. “As an industry committed to bringing technological innovation into every aspect of our business so we can better serve our customers, we look forward to working with the incoming Secretary to continue to develop and strengthen the industry-government partnership we now have in place,” Kuhn added.
