Electric Utility Industry Financial Data and Trend Analysis

Quarterly Financial Updates | Previous Quarterly Financial Updates | Capital Expenditures | FERC Data

EEI's Financial Analysis group tracks and analyzes a wide range of industry financial metrics covering 58 U.S. shareholder-owned electric utility companies. These 58 companies include 51 electric utility holding companies whose stocks are traded on major U.S. stock exchanges and 7 electric utility subsidiaries of non-utility or foreign companies.

FERC Data

Because SEC 10-K and 10-Q filings include non-electric business segment results, we also aggregate data from the FERC Forms 1 and 3-Q to better capture financial trends affecting utilities' regulated electric businesses.

  • File A: All Regulated Electrics
Presents consolidated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement data for 130 regulated-electric subsidiaries of EEI's group of shareholder-owned electric utility holding companies. These results include all subsidiaries with regulated electric operations, regardless of whether they also include a regulated gas business(es).
  • File B: Regulated Electric-Only Companies
Presents consolidated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement data for 80 "electric-only" regulated subsidiaries of EEI's group of shareholder-owned electric utility holding companies. These results exclude subsidiaries with regulated gas operations.
  • File C: All Regulated Electrics (Electric Segment Operating Income)
Presents electric segment-level income statement data, down to the operating income line, for all 130 regulated-electric subsidiaries. File C differs from File B in two ways:
  1. It captures data from all 130 subsidiaries with regulated electric operations.
  2. It includes only operating income data because the Forms 1 and 3-Q do not require business segment reporting below the operating income line.
