EEI Index of Investor-Owned Electric Utilities

The EEI Index Award for Shareholder-Owned Electric Utilities is presented annually to EEI member companies that have achieved the highest total shareholder return in their Large- and Small- Capitalization categories.

Methodology

The EEI Index returns are based on total shareholder return calculations.  The award is given to companies with the highest five-year returns through September 30, and presented to the winning companies at EEI's Annual Financial Conference.

Additionally, aggregate EEI Index results are calculated on an ongoing basis, providing a good benchmark for member companies among their peer electric utilities, and for electric utilities against other business sectors.  The overall EEI Index calculation is market cap-weighted.
