On opening day for the Tampa Bay Rays, nearly 100 Duke Energy Florida lineworkers took to the field ahead of the game to participate in a flag ceremony. The lineworkers and their families were honored for their hard work and dedication to restoring power to more than 1 million customers after Hurricane Ian swept through Florida in September 2022. Tropicana Field, where the Tampa Bay Rays play, was used as a staging ground for restoration crews during the restoration.
Duke Energy Florida also is hoping the Tampa Bay Rays have a winning season this year. For every regular season game won, the company will donate $1,000 to its Share the Light Fund to help families in need pay for energy expenses.
“I’m really proud of the way our Florida team responded during last year’s back-to-back storms,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. “We’re grateful for not only the recognition by the Rays today, but our ongoing relationship working together with the team to care for the communities we serve.”
The opening day recognition ceremony and winning game donations are a part of a long-term relationship between Duke Energy Florida and the Tampa Bay Rays.
